"Girl in Translation" by Jean Kwok

I would not have found without book club, and I freaking loved it.

It’s been a few years since I read this, but I remember it was a powerful read. I would describe this as a ‘justice’ book. It’s about a brilliant Chinese immigrant and her mother surviving extreme poverty and the cultural shift of living in Brooklyn, NY. It showed how hard it is for immigrants. It gave a glimpse into Chinese culture, which was interesting. I love learning about different cultures.

'Girl in Translation’ is fiction, but the author also emigrated from Hong Kong when she was young.

Jean Kwok has another book out called 'Mambo in Chinatown.’ I have checked it out from the library twice, but still haven’t gotten to it. I bet it will be good.

Since writing this review Jean Kwok has published a third book, "Searching for Sylvie Lee."
