"The art of losing isn't hard to master"
Elizabeth Bishop
Covid-19 stole my sense of taste and smell. It has been 165. It comes and goes. One day bread tastes normal. The next day bread does not taste like bread.
Last week we made cheese dip. It's a Midwestern staple. Hamburger, salsa, cream cheese, and salsa. I couldn't taste it. I cried.
Food brings me joy. So many traditions revolve around food. Think about all the social interactions happen over a meal. Not tasting is ... devastating.
With every bite, I hope it will taste right. That it will hit my tongue in the familiar places. I haven't given up trying all the foods.
Last week I started acupuncture with a friend of a friend. I drove out to his place in Fern Acres not believing it would help. I was afraid to hope.
It is working. The past three days food has tasted normal. The flavors are not as strong, but at least they're there. It's the best Christmas present ever.
