"Do you think you can sell my house?" I asked.
"Yes," my realtor said.
My realtor arranged a pre-market showing, and two days later my house sold for my asking price. I didn't even need to list it. A good realtor is worth the money.
Immediately, I took to Facebook Marketplace to sell my stuff. I started with catchy titles: "Buy all my Christmas Decorations for $5," "2 Leather Club Chairs for $50," and "Mid Century Modern Dining Room Table and Chairs $20." One by one my items sold. My titles got simpler: "Candlesticks $1 each" and "Christmas Wreath $1."
I gave my artwork away to my friends. They are happy to have something of mine. I am happy to have my art go to good homes, and that a piece of me will be with my friends.
As my house empties and begins to echo, I clean. I wash the floors and the baseboards. I dust the beautiful cherry built-ins. I love this big farmhouse. I am so glad I lived here. I hope the new owners love it.
I pull my flowers and clean the garden. I sweep the leaves out of the garage. I pick up sticks in the yard.
I'm down to 2 couches, 2 rugs, a table and chairs, my lamps, the spare bed, and one dresser. I like having time to let my things go a little at a time. The hardest thing I've parted with so far has been: my bed. It was a Tempur-Pedic hybrid on an adjustable base. I gave it to a friend who needed a good bed.
I've never read Marie Kondo or watched her Netflix series, but friends have explained the premise. I got purge practice when I moved to Lincoln from Norfolk. I downsized from a two bedroom house to a one bedroom apartment, so I was forced to purge.
Today I am selling a shower curtain, Christmas lights, a wicker waste basket, and a little dipper Crock pot. I am happy to give people "deals," because I love getting a deal. Goodwill has gotten expensive. Their shower curtains are $7. I am selling mine for $2.
My goal is to move to Hawaii with 3 suitcases. So far, so good. It is 11 days to closing, and I'm running out of things to sell.
