In March Not Jersey took me to Kauai for a weekend getaway. In addition to being beautiful, Kauai also had amazing food. This was exciting, because Big Island's restaurant scene is weak.
Friday night, after landing and picking up our rental car, we stopped for dinner at Kauai Beer Company. The restaurant/bar was very cute. Since we had to stand in line at AVIS fooorrrevvveerrr, we arrived after the dinner rush and were seated right away. Not Jersey ordered the "Not in Philly Cheese Steak" which was delicious. I had the "World Famous Reuben" which was also tasty. We shared the garlic fries which were smothered in garlic butter and parmesan cheese. The service was good and the prices were good (for Hawaii).
Saturday night, after our boat tour and couples massage, we dined at The Bistro in Kilauea, HI. This was a great restaurant. The food was incredible. The service was fantastic. The ambiance was nice. We split the goat cheese wrapped in prosciutto to start.
We agreed this was a very small appetizer. He ordered the Penne Pesto which was huge and delicious. I ordered a pork chop covered in chimichurri served over rice. My food was so flavorful - even the rice! Normally, I think rice is a waste, but this rice was so good. We topped it off with chocolate brownie covered in ice cream.
Sunday morning I dropped off Not Jersey at his hike and headed into town for some shopping. After stopping at a few random Sunday morning garage sales, I cruised into Pono Coffee and Bakery in Kapaa. This was a nice little spot. They had good coffee and lots of baked goods with a nice selection of sweet and savory choices.
This weekend we are going to Maui. We're already compiling our list of "must-eats." So, stay tuned for next week's edition of Tasty Tuesday. I will also try to do better on my food photography.
