Nebraska. Man, I missed it. Despite the 100 degree days and the tornado warnings at night, it's still home.
I agreed to house/pet sit for a friend in Lincoln for a few weeks in June. So, I took Not Jersey on a whirlwind tour of Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. He met so many people (25) that I made him a primer (at his request) prior to the trip.
We were in Nebraska a whole 12 hours before a tornado warning sent us running to the basement. I was enjoying a nice respite from the heat until I saw the basement was leaking.
Not Jersey was not impressed with tornado warnings... or basements.
Of all the towns we visited, Not Jersey liked Norfolk the best. That made me happy. He walked all the way to Battle Creek on The Cowboy Trail. He said, "That was the longest I've ever walked in a straight line."
We drove to Miller, and Not Jersey finally understood why I hate wind. He survived "the drive" with my Dad. Dad took him into rural Buffalo County after showing him his collection of long guns.
I loved catching up with my friends and introducing them to my main squeeze. I smelled peonies! We ate so much good, cheap mainland food. Now we are on diets.
It is good to be home in Hawaii. I won't wait two years before I go home again. Until then, Go Big Red!
