Life Announcement

I am moving to Hawaii

Yes, that's right. I quit my job. I sold my house. I'm moving to Hawaii. Specifically, the "Big Island" or the Island of Hawaii. My sister has lived on the Big Island for more than 10 years. She had a baby, Lukka, my first nephew in May.

When I was sick with COVID-19 , I asked myself what I would regret if I died. I'd regret not being in Hawaii.

My last day with Legal Aid of Nebraska will be October 16, 2020. My one-way-ticket to paradise is booked for October 26. That is less than a month away.

How do I feel about my decision?

This is the best thing I've ever done. I've been dreaming about this for years. Getting sick with COVID-19 was just the nudge I needed to launch myself into the South Pacific.

Yes, I had a brief moment - a second really - of panic. It came as my post viral symptoms continued to kick my butt. "Why?" I asked myself. "Why would you quit a perfectly good job with health insurance?"

Because at the end of the day, money has never made me happy. And health insurance is all about protecting a pot of money. Of which I have little and care about less. I haven't done well being sick by myself. My sister graciously offered to take me in as a house guest, and I can't think of a better place to recover.

I have been applying for jobs in Hilo, and I am hopeful about my future prospects. Hawaii is one of a few states that do not allow bar exam reciprocity, so I will not be doing any lawyering. I am quite excited about this.

I can't wait. Every day is one day closer, and I couldn't be happier about my decision. #thenext40 #gobigisland #hawaii
